Class AR3a – Basic AR Shooting Skills Classroom
Are you new to the world of ARs, and are you looking to build a solid basis for shooting them, then this class is for you!
This hands-on classroom session is intended to get new AR owners up and running and will cover:
- Firearms Safety
- Operations: Loading, Mag Changes, Malfunctions
- Shooting Fundamentals: Positions, Sight Picture, Trigger Control
After this class an AR owner will be able to shoot their AR safely and effectively.
For this class students should bring their AR and 2 spare magazines.
This is the second class in the Openrange AR series progression. Once this class is completed, students may attend Class AR3b – Basic AR Shooting Skills Range Time.

Class AR1 – Intro to ARs: hands-on classroom session that covers the basic operation and maintenance of an AR.
Class AR2 – AR Assembly & Disassembly: hands-on classroom session that covers the assembly and disassembly of an AR.
Class AR3b – Basic AR Shooting Skills Range Time: range session that covers the fundamentals of shooting an AR safely & effectively.
Class AR4a – Intermediate AR Shooting Skills Classroom: hands-on classroom session that covers additional shooting skills and improving speed and accuracy.
Class AR4b – Intermediate AR Shooting Skills Range Time: range session that covers additional shooting skills and improving speed and accuracy.
Class AR5 – AR Shooting Skills Practice: range session that allows students to practice basic to intermediate skills and improve their speed and accuracy.
Mike Richardson has 8 years of active duty military service, and 22 years of public safety experience. He has been an avid competitive rifle shooter going back to the mid 1980s when he shot competitively on his JROTC rifle team. He is a graduate of multiple military and law enforcement shooting and sniper schools. Some of his professional affiliations include, US Army Sniper Association, American Sniper Association, National Tactical Officers Association, Kentucky Tactical Officers Association, and the National Rifle Association. He holds multiple national and state instructor certifications to include Department of Homeland Security Master Trainer and Multiple NRA disciplines. Currently, he competes in a number of different precision long range rifle shooting disciplines to include, NRA Highpower and F-Class where he holds a Master classification, and Tactical Rifle Matches where he has a number of top finishes and wins. He has spent the last 5 years as a Rifle Instructor for Openrange Sports teaching a number of classes to include; Intro to AR Rifles, AR Rifle Shooting, AR Rifle Armorer, and intro to Long Range Shooting. Given his 30 years of extensive training and experience, he is capable of handling all of your rifle training needs.
