Serious as a Heart Attack

Serious as a Heart Attack

If you want to save your relationship, don't YOU teach her to shoot.....

SERIOUS AS A HEART ATTACK…

“MEN, YOUR BEST IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH AND MAY WELL BE DANGEROUS… AND, SHE’LL PROBABLY NEVER WANT TO SHOOT AGAIN….

I’m fully prepared for you ninja warrior men writing me to tell me how full of poo I am. Bring it, but I’m right on this one.

Men:  If you want your favorite female to enjoy shooting, stop trying to teach them.  Training is not easy.  That’s why we exist because we excel where you don’t.  You also bring relationship dynamics to an emotional endeavor and you really aren’t prepared.

Case in point (one of thousands over the years)… man brings wife to “learn to shoot”.  Has a ‘flippy’ subcompact 9mm (at least it wasn’t a .45 – we see that all the time!).  Hands her the gun with a full mag, slide locked open.  She has finger in trigger guard ready to close the slide…

I intervene, asking her to keep her finger off the trigger, reminding her that the gun will fire once the slide is closed if she pulls the trigger like she was doing… she drops the gun on the bench, steps back with tears forming and says “I’ve never shot a gun before”!

Here she is with a full mag, not having any idea of grip, stance, sight alignment, site picture, trigger control and follow through.  None. With a full mag and finger in the trigger guard.  She’s trying to be game but is scared out of her mind.  She begins shaking and crying…. And please ladies this is not to say you are scaredy-cats.  On the contrary, you actually understand and respect the power of firearms to the point you need to understand how firearms work before launching the inevitable explosion.

Men, do everyone a favor. If you really want your partner to enjoy firearms, take a class together – or if you think you don’t need a class at least put her in a beginning class.  You will find she will outshoot you the majority of the time.  But don’t worry; your ego will mend once you realize she actually is enjoying the experience.

Be gentle, be nice and surprise her with a class.  You’ll both appreciate it.
